Better Decision Making (Novemsky)
Leaders make decisions that are full of complexity and often have unforeseen consequences. Dealing with complex situations requires new skills and techniques. This session will show these techniques and how they help leaders make better decisions. This session will also take participants through a group decision and help them appreciate the strengths as well as weaknesses of the group. We will provide simple tools to help leaders obtain better decisions from their groups. By knowing more about what groups naturally do well and do poorly, leaders can more effectively design meetings to gain the best knowledge and solutions from their teams. This session will provide concrete tools to increase participation from all team members, tools to get more expertise and better information from team members, and tools to uncover blind spots and avoid surprises. Areas of application include holding better meetings with employees and colleagues, more effective group decision-making, and more accurate predictions about the future.
Red-Teaming 2.0 (Cain)
This workshop reveals how to reduce bias and make better, faster decisions. Participants will hear decision-making stories about Navy SEALs, Google Ventures, and high-stakes poker players. These stories shed light on an improved version of Red-Teaming, a technique that helps people to sincerely consider that they might be on the wrong track. Ideally, we will glean hints on how to create a culture of constructive criticism, without wasting time or creating disarray.
